A REAL LIFE R2-D2!

IMG_20161125_164448255

While visiting the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, I came across a robot that reminded me of R2-D2 from Star Wars. Like R2-D2, this robot operates in space in order to repair the exterior of space crafts. What was even more amazing was the robot’s humanoid appearance. I cannot wait to see what new innovations NASA will create to bring us closer to a Star Wars-like world. Who knows? One day they may create a real-life lightsaber! You never know!

FILM REVIEW: LIFE (2017)

Life_(2017_film)

I saw the alien science fiction film known as Life, which was like a combination between The Blob and Alien. A group of astronauts on the International Space Station are tasked with studying a sample from Mars. When the sample contained a dormant alien life form, all hell breaks lose. The creature reminded me in many ways to the real-life water bear in that it remained dormant for a very long time, started out microscopic, and was virtually indestructible. As the creature grew and evolved, it started out as a single-celled organism, then a starfish-like creature, then an octopus, and finally a stingray-sized monster that had tentacles, fin-like wings, and a head that resembled a rattlesnake skull. The ending of the film is not what you would expect. Overall, I recommend this film to anyone who is a scifi nut and loves scary thrills.

STAR WARS: POSSIBLE ORIGIN OF THE KNIGHTS OF REN

I think I know the origins of the Knights of Ren. In the Aftermath Trilogy, a new dark side order rose to replace the Sith: The Acolytes of the Beyond. Where these Acolytes came from no one knows, but they are devout Darth Vader fanatics and are obsessed with the dark side of the Force. In the first two books of the Aftermath Trilogy, it has been demonstrated that the Acolytes concentrated on acquiring lightsabers and earning their masks through a series of tests. From Taris to Corellia, the Acolytes have sparked chaos and revolutions across the galaxy. Kylo Ren shares much in common with the Acolytes in that he worshipped Darth Vader and wore a mask like his grandfather even though he did not need it for life support. With this in mind, I think that the Acolytes of the Beyond will eventually evolve into the Knights of Ren and recruited into the First Order. Hopefully, I will get some answers about the connection between the Acolytes and the Knights in either the third Aftermath book or future works.

STAR WARS: REY’S POSSIBLE PARENTS

sabine__ezras_secret

I have a strong suspicion about the identity of Rey’s parents in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. I think they are Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren from Star Wars Rebels. The reason for this is because they would be around the same age as Luke and Leia and throughout Star Wars Rebels there was an obvious connection between them. Ezra and Sabine may have gone their separate ways for now, but I believe that they will be reunited one day. Rey was born 15 years after the Battle of Yavin so if they are Rey’s parents they would each be about 34 or 35 when they conceived her.

As for their ultimate fate, because Ezra has used the dark side of the Force a number of times, I suspect that he will turn to the dark side and join the Knights of Ren and the First Order. On the other hand, Ezra may have tried to help Luke rebuild the Jedi Order but was killed when Kylo Ren destroyed Luke’s students. Sabine denied being Mandalore’s leader in the latest episode, but I think necessity will force her either to become Mandalore or become a close follower of the new Mandalore.

As to why they left Rey on Jakku, I think it is mainly Sabine’s doing. The reason for this is because she has recently been revealed to be a member of the Mandalorian aristocracy; her mother being a countess. In addition, since the Jedi and Mandalorians have fought one another for centuries there is bound to be ancient bad blood between them. Due to this, a majority of the Mandalorian clans may not like the fact that one of their own had an affair with a Jedi and produced a half-breed child. Sabine may have left Rey on Jakku to prevent her daughter from being targeted by the other Mandalorian clans. Also, if Ezra turned to the dark side and joined the Knights of Ren then Sabine may have also hid Rey to protect her from her dark side wielding father; similar to how Obi-Wan protected Luke on Tatooine. In general, Sabine would realize that her daughter would be surrounded by enemies and would be hunted all her life. Due to this, Sabine would have hid Rey in a backwater planet where none of her enemies would be able to find her.

I also believe that Ezra and Sabine will appear in either Episode VIII or IX. It has been revealed that new cast members include Benecio del Toro and Laura Dern. I think Benecio del Toro is going to be an older Ezra while Laura Dern is going to be an older version of Sabine. Both actors are the same age just as Ezra and Sabine are close in age and would be old enough to portray an older and wiser version of the characters.

I hope these predictions come true either in Episode VIII or IX. Only time will tell.

STAR WARS REVIEW: LEGACY OF MANDALORE

I have finished watching the latest episode of Star Wars Rebels: Legacy of Mandalore. I was very eager to see this episode because it more prominently featured the Mandalorians. I got to learn more about their culture in the New Expanded Universe like the fact that they have their own form of aristocracy since Sabine’s mother holds the title Countess. I remember speaking the Mandalorian language, Mando’a, to Mandalorian fans at WonderCon 2014. Sabine Wren sounded super-sexy when she spoke Mando’a. Overall, the episode showed a dramatic change to Sabine’s storyline and the Mandalorians as a people.

With the Galactic Empire’s puppet ruler Gar Saxon dead, the Mandalorian people will be thrown into chaos and anarchy all over again since the Clone Wars. Some people might see this as a bad thing, but because the Mandalorians are a culture of battle-hardened warriors they thrive on chaos while other civilizations implode from it. It is as Littlefinger from Game of Thrones once said, “Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods… illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is.” In a world of chaos, the Mandalorians are the only ones who can climb that ladder because chaos weeds out the weak from their ranks and allows the strong to thrive. In time, this will allow the strongest of the survivors to rise as the new Mandlore, who is the absolute ruler of the Mandalorian people.

Overall, I look forward to finding out the long-term aftermath of the events of this episode. I wonder if we will see Sabine again in future episodes or if this is the end of this chapter of her story. Only time will tell.

COLONIZING PLANETS

After visiting the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, I came across a great many ideas for both my sequel series. One of them involved this picture, which depicted colonization on the surface of Mars. What if the setting of the story was a colonized planet like Mars? I am drawing inspiration from the science behind this for what kind of world the characters would live in.
