After looking over the trailer for The Last Jedi, I discovered some details that I would like to talk about Kylo Ren and Rey. Apparently, their connection to the Force is more complicated than we originally thought. Supreme Leader Snoke described Kylo Ren’s connection to the Force as “raw, untamed power” and “something special”. Luke Skywalker said the same thing about Rey having “raw strength” and that it frightened him. This indicates that both Kylo Ren and Rey have a connection to the Force that is so deep and profound that their Force potential rivals or even surpasses Luke Skywalker himself. Because both of these characters have raw Force power, it could be argued that Kylo Ren and Rey could be physical representations of both the light and the dark sides of the Force. Also, it looks like these characters are going to do unexpected things in this next film. With Kylo Ren, patricide was not enough so it looks like he will commit matricide as well. If this happens, we might see Kylo Ren be pushed even deeper into the dark side. With Rey, it looks like she is going to turn to the dark side. If this happens, it could be seen as a representation of what might have happened if Luke Skywalker joined Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back. Overall, I am looking forward to seeing how these characters will develop in The Last Jedi.
Here is a video giving us a behind the scenes look at The Last Jedi. It is exciting and I look forward to seeing the film in its entirety. May the Force be with us all!
I had an interesting thought about Darth Vader. We all know how he sounds when he breathes, but how does he sound when he sneezes in that helmet? What do you think?
I found an interesting picture that I believe will show Rey’s new look at the end of The Last Jedi. In this picture, Rey has a significant scar above her left eye, a cybernetic left arm, and a hardened look on her face. This could mean that when she faces Kylo Ren again, he will severely hurt her both physically and psychologically at the end of their rematch. This is kind of reminiscent of when Luke Skywalker was physically and spiritually wounded by Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back. If this is what happens to Rey at the end of the film, it could be an interestingly dark development in her character as well as a faithful homage to The Empire Strikes Back.
In the trailer for The Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker mentioned that there was something bigger happening in the Force than just light and dark. I have been pounding this question against my head for a while and I have yet to receive a definitive answer. Here is what I think so far. The light and dark sides of the Force are two ends of a spectrum. While the light and dark sides are VERY familiar territory for Star Wars fans, the area in the middle is largely unexplored territory. Even in the Legends continuity, the middle of the Force was very mysterious and gave us only brief glimpses of its nature and power. In the new Canon, we got our first wielder of the middle of the Force: the Bendu, who was an embodiment the balance between light and dark. I think Luke Skywalker may have found something in the First Jedi Temple that will enable him and Rey to access the light and dark in perfect balance. This may also shed light on why Luke said the Jedi had to end because Luke may believe that accessing the light side alone is not enough to defeat Supreme Leader Snoke. With this in mind, I think The Last Jedi will give us a clearer picture of what the middle of the Force is like. I hope I will receive an answer this December.
I found this concept art of Kylo Ren and Supreme Leader Snoke’s appearance in The Last Jedi. Based on this picture, it is clear that Supreme Leader Snoke likes to dress in more rich and regal garb compared to Emperor Palpatine such as red and gold robes and a ring that may have a black kyber crystal. Kylo Ren’s new look makes him look more like his grandfather, Darth Vader. He is wearing a full cape instead of his short tattered cloak. I look forward to seeing these two lords of darkness in all their sinister glory when The Last Jedi comes out.
It is finally here! The trailer for The Last Jedi! I became super-excited when I saw that Rey was about to begin her training with Luke Skywalker and continue her evolution as a Force wielder. Rey’s training with Luke kind of reminded me of Karate Kid. I got to see new ships, such as New Republic cruisers and AT-ATs on steroids, and planets such as one that is covered in red sand. It looks like that we will learn more about the destruction of Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy. I only got to see him briefly, but Kylo Ren looks more sinister than he did in The Force Awakens. However, despite the hype I got from watching this trailer, Luke said something troubling, “It is time for the Jedi to end.” Luke Skywalker of all people said that! In the trailer it was revealed that Luke discovered Jedi manuscripts at the First Jedi Temple, which means he may have found something either in those books or at the Temple that made him disillusioned with the Jedi way. I wonder where this will lead and I look forward to seeing more trailers in the future.
They finally released the title of Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. Some people have speculated on who this last Jedi is, but I think we already know who it is. Before Yoda died in the Return of the Jedi, he told Luke Skywalker that he would be the last of the Jedi after he died. After his failure to resurrect the Jedi Order, I think Luke lost his confidence in his ability to train Jedi. As a result, I think Luke Skywalker intends to always be the last Jedi. When he went to the first Jedi Temple, it looks like he went there so that the Jedi could end where they began, which is fitting. Normally, Jedi go to die on Mustafar, but the first Jedi Temple is a nice choice to end the Jedi. Unless Rey can convince Luke to train her, it looks like the Jedi will die with Luke. However, because there must always be balance in the Force between light and dark, if the Jedi die out it is possible a new light side order will replace them just as the Knights of Ren replaced the Sith. Either way, I look forward to finding out if my analysis is accurate.
In Rogue One, we got to see Darth Vader’s personal residence. Shortly after the film was released, it was confirmed that the castle was on Mustafar, which was the volcanic planet where Darth Vader was maimed and burned alive after fighting Obi-Wan Kenobi in Revenge of the Sith. It makes perfect sense that this is where Vader would live. The reason for this is because Mustafar is where Vader’s pain and hatred was born and where he truly became Darth Vader. In addition, Star Wars Rebels revealed that Mustafar was where Jedi go to die, which made it the ideal fortress against potential Jedi attacks. I have a strong feeling that we will see more of this castle in future stories. The Knights of Ren such as Kylo Ren were devout Darth Vader fanatics so it would make sense that Vader’s castle would be their headquarters. This could also be where Supreme Leader Snoke resides. Who knows? We may get to see it more detail in either Episode VIII or IX.
