Guess what?! I have just passed my American Sign Language Class! This class was TWO YEARS worth of material, which is a type of class I never tackled before! By passing this class, I have completed my Foreign Language requirements to graduate from my university! I’M FREE!!! I am about to start binge-writing while watching the Extended Editions of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings!
I find myself in a sad and depressing time. For several months, I have not been able to write any of my books. The reason for this is because I have been studying to complete my American Sign Language class. This class contains over two years worth of material, which means if I pass this class then I will have completed my foreign language requirements to graduate from my university. Therefore, failure is not an option in this class. As a result of the high stakes of this class, I was forced to sacrifice my writing time in order to put more effort into this class. While this does help me academically, it also robs me of my greatest passion, which leaves me in a toxic state of sadness and depression. Nothing is more pathetic than a person who is separated from their passion. However, I cannot write until Wednesday this week by nightfall. The reason for this is because even though I cannot write at this time that has not stopped me from brainstorming on how the story will progress. That means that once I start writing, I won’t be able to stop! Therefore, I have to suck it up and do whatever it takes to finish and pass the class and get it out of my life for good. Don’t worry though because you will hear a flurry of activity Wednesday night this week. Hopefully, I can get back on track and complete my writing quota on time. Wish me luck!
I had an interesting idea for when I eventually write my superhuman series. When I write the titles on the covers, I am thinking of making the name of the series in English and the subtitle of each volume to be in Japanese. I have seen this in a number of manga I read and I think I will follow this tradition when I write this new series. This will also be similar to how the characters names will be structured. The characters’ names would be a mixture between Japanese and Latin. This would be a golden opportunity for me to expand my linguistic skills after finishing my sign language class.
In multiple science fiction futuristic universes such as Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and Blade Runner, I noticed they each had their own unique form of profanity. One thing I learned is that profanity is a way for people to express anger, surprise, disgust, fear, and other emotions. With this in mind, I wonder how people in the future would use profanity. Depending on how much time has passed and how much civilization has evolved, I don’t think humanity would swear the same way they do today. With this in mind, I will base the futuristic swearing of my superhuman series on the censored swearing I normally use myself.
Before humanity abandoned their destroyed homeland of Homantis, they all spoke a language that predated the Common Tongue, Homani. To better understand what this language would sound like, allow me to give you some tips. Homani is essentially a mixture of Old Norse and Old English or Anglo-Saxon with the exhalted undertone of Latin. A few thousand years after the Common Tongue was introduced, Homani was only spoken amongst a select few such as the Welts, the kingdom of Storuuk, and the Sages of the Temple sing it while praying or performing a choir. I will explore this language some more while I write the second volume of the Magnus Dynasty Saga.
