REIMAGINED FAIRIES

I had an interesting thought regarding fairies. In Midsummer Night’s Dream, fairies have been portrayed as small, beautiful, winged creatures. For my new fantasy book, I am thinking of reimagining them into something out of the box. Instead of humanoid beings, I am thinking of portraying them in my new fantasy book as normal insects such as dragonflies, butterflies, bees, wasps, fireflies, and so on. Unlike normal insects, these creatures would have bodies that look like living silver, their eyes would look like emeralds, and their wings would look like living copper. In addition, they would glow in the dark at night. They would become this way due to spending too much time around a strong source of magic.

SMITHSONIAN BUTTERFLY HOUSE

While I was at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, I went into their butterfly house. It was like walking into a fairy tale because the butterflies and moths reminded me of fairies. There was even one butterfly that stubbornly clung to a lady’s bag and would not let go no matter what. Even though it is unlikely that I would include fairies in my fantasy series, I thought it would be nice to draw inspiration from this experience if I decide to write a children’s story.
