In Rise of Skywalker, we saw a massive plot to resurrect the Sith try to unfold. However, their fleet, military, and cultists were all destroyed before their scheme could truly take shape. In addition, the First Order suffered a colossal defeat in the end. Still, even though the Sith are permanently gone and the First Order is crippled, there will always be ways for the dark side of the Force to rear its ugly head again. As Maz Kanata pointed out, the dark side has ways of evolving and changing. As the Galactic Empire proved, there will always be remnants of the First Order that will never surrender. Since the First Order originated in the Unknown Regions, it is very likely they have strongholds and outposts that are beyond the reach of the known galaxy. Those strongholds will likely rebuild their strength in the Unknown Regions like they did the first time and one day renew their efforts to conquer the galaxy. Since Palpatine established no Contingency plan this time, whatever remnants of the First Order that remain will not implode and will last a lot longer than the Imperial remnants. Palpatine’s Sith Eternal cult may have been destroyed in the Battle of Exegol, but the chances of them being the only dark side cult in the whole galaxy are extremely slim. When the Galactic Empire collapsed, a dark side cult called the Acolytes of the Beyond emerged. With this in mind, it is very likely that more dark side cults will rise in the aftermath of the First Order’s defeat. Even though the Sith are permanently extinct, their dark legacy will ensure a new breed of dark side practitioners will rise to replace them. The ancient Sith left artifacts saturated in the dark side across the galaxy. Several were either recovered or destroyed, but it is unlikely that they were all found, which opens the door for Sith-like Force-users to rise. Overall, Rey Skywalker’s new Jedi Order will have no shortage of enemies to fight as they recover their strength.
I just discovered something mind-blowing regarding The Rise of Skywalker! They released some footage of Kylo Ren confronting Darth Sidious, which is in the following link. In that footage, we learned that Sidious truly IS Supreme Leader Snoke! To be more specific, Snoke was Sidious’s puppet and mouthpiece. In addition, Sidious had been communicating with Kylo Ren through the remains of Darth Vader’s helmet. Throughout the footage, as he was talking to Kylo Ren, Sidious’s voice changed between his own and those of Snoke and Vader, saying, “I have been every voice you have ever heard inside your head.” This shows that it was Darth Sidious the entire time who manipulated Ben Solo into turning to the dark side. It appears that Sidious has been grooming Kylo Ren to be his new Sith apprentice from the shadows, using Snoke and Vader’s helmet as proxies. After Vader “killed” him, Sidious saw him as a failed apprentice so he turned his attention to Ben Solo, who had just as much potential in the Force as Vader. With Vader’s helmet, Sidious was able to tug on Kylo Ren’s sentiment towards his grandfather. Through Snoke, Sidious was able to do test trials with Kylo Ren, teaching him basic dark side knowledge before he was ready to fully commit to him as his Sith apprentice. Also, even if something were to happen to Snoke, Sidious himself would remain hidden until he was ready to reveal himself. Now, Kylo Ren has proven he has something his grandfather lacked: the ability to kill and overthrow the master and usurp his power, which is the prime principle behind the Rule of Two. With this in mind, Sidious wanted Kylo Ren to kill Snoke to prove that he is capable of completing the Rule of Two. Afterwards, Sidious would leave Kylo Ren to his own devices to see what he would do once he gained real power. Clearly, Sidious liked what Kylo Ren became and has called to him through the dark side to officially become his new Sith apprentice. Just thinking of the lengths Sidious went through to orchestrate the formation of the First Order and discreetly grooming Kylo Ren into his new apprentice makes my mind blow! Up until now, we have only seen the puppets, but we will soon see the puppeteer. With these new revelations, I look forward to see the movie in its entirety to see what plans Sidious has for his new apprentice.
I have always been fascinated by Kylo Ren’s mask. While Darth Vader’s mask was both functional and symbolic, Kylo Ren’s mask was purely symbolic in nature. Kylo Ren’s mask is not just a common prop. It is a representation of his identity as a dark side practitioner. The first version of the mask in The Force Awakens represented Ben Solo’s initial turn to the dark side. When the mask was shattered in The Last Jedi, it represented Kylo Ren’s soul being shattered as a result of him killing his father. Now, in The Rise of Skywalker, the mask is being rebuilt. The mask looks like the original mask, but its numerous pieces are held together by red cracks. This symbolizes that Kylo Ren’s previously shattered dark side identity was reforged into something stronger. This transformation started when he killed Supreme Leader Snoke, which allowed Kylo Ren to complete the Rule of Two. Upon his ascension as the new Supreme Leader of the First Order, Kylo Ren’s reforged dark side identity solidifies. Those red cracks represent the fragments of his soul being held together by his dark side rage. His identity may be reforged, but the flaws of his old identity as Ben Solo are still there. Now, Kylo Ren is not as conflicted as he was when we first met him and his turn to the dark side is closer to completion.
I REALLY love how Darth Vader was reimagined in the new Star Wars canon. In the old Expanded Universe, there were several stories in which multiple characters who could beat Vader. I do not like this version of Darth Vader because the Galactic Empire would have fallen sooner than it did if Vader was that weak. Now, the new canon truly portrays how Vader instilled an all-consuming fear in the Empire’s friends and enemies. Disney has made us fear Vader again in ways we didn’t before. The greatest villains are not hated; they are feared. Darth Vader is not the most feared Jedi killer in recent history because he looks terrifying and is ruthless, but because he is STRONG!!! The new canon showed Darth Vader being too strong both physically and in the dark side, portraying him like a force of nature instead of a person. Even Vader’s subordinates whether if they are Inquisitors or Imperial officers would rather kill themselves than face his unstoppable wrath. With this version of Darth Vader, you can’t fight him and all you can do is run for your life. When it comes to Darth Vader, you are not running from a man or a machine but from death itself. Not only could most of his enemies not match him in lightsaber combat, but Darth Vader’s power in the dark side is so extreme that he could literally tear his surrounding environment apart if it means crushing his prey. Against weaker opponents, Darth Vader toys with them like a cat playing with a wounded mouse. I can see why Kylo Ren wants to be like his grandfather. Not just because of Vader’s immense power in the dark side, but also the respect he instilled in his minions and the fear he instilled in his enemies. The scariest thing of all is that the ancient Sith Lord Momin implied that the ancient Sith were even stronger than either Vader or Palpatine. I look forward to seeing this in future works. In the meantime, I get to enjoy watching Darth Vader in all his sinister glory in the new canon.
We got a glimpse of the resurrected Palpatine in the new trailer of Rise of Skywalker. After seeing that, I went through a number of plot leaks and several of them corroborated Palpatine’s return. What I found was frightening! It looks like Palpatine DID die in Return of the Jedi, but the way he came back was grotesque! I don’t know how Palpatine got off the second Death Star before it exploded, but I know what he becomes and how. As we can see in this picture, Palpatine was hooked up to some kind of life support system chair that moves on its own like some kind of cybernetic wheelchair. However, that is just what keeps him alive for the moment. How he came back is a lot more bizarre. Apparently, Palpatine DID use his old Master, Darth Plagueis’s, method to cheat death. However, his resurrection was imperfect due to the extreme damage to his body, which is what made his life support system necessary. Essentially, Palpatine has become an undead cyborg abomination that is worse than Vader ever was. Additionally, Palpatine will be in far worse condition than he was with his deformities. On the other hand, experiencing death clearly made Palpatine more powerful in the dark side. According to the plot leaks, Palpatine’s power in the dark side will become so great that he could conjure vivid illusions that could reshape entire environments and his Force Lightning could envelope the atmosphere of an entire planet. That was where all the lighting we saw in the trailer was coming from. Also, it looks like Rey and Kylo Ren are part of Palpatine’s plan to fully restore himself. With Luke Skywalker and Supreme Leader Snoke dead, Rey and Kylo Ren are the last prominent practitioners of the light and dark sides of the Force. I think Palpatine needs their power in the light and dark to complete his resurrection. I believe in the endgame, Rey and Kylo Ren will team up to take down Palpatine.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I believe the ring Supreme Leader Snoke wore before he was killed has something to do with Palpatine’s apparent resurrection. This would be similar to the mask of the ancient Sith Lord known as Momin, whose spirit possessed whoever wore his mask. Like some fans, I believe Palpatine and Snoke are one and the same. Maybe Palpatine transferred his essence into this ring and when Snoke put it on, Palpatine’s spirit possessed him. This would make sense because Palpatine and Snoke have similar personalities and mannerisms. While he was Emperor of the Galactic Empire, Palpatine sensed a strong dark side presence in the Unknown Regions, which was where the remnants of the Empire reorganized into the First Order. What if that presence was Snoke? What if the reason Palpatine was so interested in this mysterious presence was because he saw a potential host for his spirit to live in when he eventually dies? This ability to transfer one’s essence was seen in the Dark Empire comics, which allowed Palpatine to transfer his essence into clone bodies. Maybe the reason Palpatine’s voice sounds the same as it was in Revenge of Sith is because he returns in a clone body in Rise of Skywalker. Because Snoke would eventually die, it would make sense that Palpatine would take additional measures to make sure he cheated death again. I didn’t get a clear look, but I think Snoke’s ring survived Snoke’s assassination. If it did and it has the essence transfer power, it is possible that Snoke’s closest followers salvaged the ring and put it on a clone of Palpatine, resulting in his true return. Therefore, the only way to defeat Palpatine for good would be to destroy the ring.
I remember that Supreme Leader Snoke wore a peculiar ring that had certain markings engraved on it. I have seen those markings before in the statues in Palpatine’s office in Revenge of the Sith. Palpatine received those statues from his old master Darth Plagueis, a Sith Lord who allegedly cheated death. I think I may have found how Plagueis did it. It has to do with this ring. Apparently, this ring was created through the use of either Sith Sorcery or Sith Alchemy. I am betting that when the ring’s creator dies, their essence is transferred to the ring and they possess whoever wears the ring. Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, almost leaked that Snoke really was Darth Plagueis all along. Apparently, Plagueis did save himself from death using that ring. In the canon books, Palpatine sensed a powerful presence in the dark side in the Unknown Regions. What if it was his old master regaining his strength as Supreme Leader Snoke? Also, what if this this wasn’t the only ring? What if Palpatine made one of his own to guarantee his own survival? That could explain why he is coming back. Palpatine made it clear that he no intention of anyone succeeding him as Emperor when he died, not even Darth Vader, so it is safe to assume he had taken measures to guarantee his resurrection. With his old master permanently dead by Kylo Ren’s hand, now would be the perfect time for Palpatine to reveal himself to the galaxy. I look forward to seeing if my theory is correct when The Rise of Skywalker comes.
I remember the Dark Empire graphic novel where Palpatine comes back in a clone body. This video is a reenactment of a duel between Luke Skywalker and Palpatine. If Kylo Ren and Palpatine are going to fight for leadership of the First Order, I think it will look something like this.
There has been leaked images of Kylo Ren battling someone powerful on board a Star Destroyer while all the surrounding stormtroopers were blown away. Some people think this mysterious opponent is Luke Skywalker’s Force Ghost while others say it is Anakin Skywalker’s Force Ghost. However, with the revelation of Darth Sidious’s return, Kylo Ren’s opponent could be Sidious himself. The First Order is essentially the Galactic Empire reincarnated while Kylo Ren is the current Supreme Leader after Snoke’s death. Because the First Order is the culmination of his legacy, it would make sense that Darth Sidious would challenge Kylo Ren for leadership of the First Order. Even though Kylo Ren will clearly become stronger in The Rise of Skywalker, he doesn’t stand a chance against Sidious. Darth Sidious has proven to match Yoda in both mastery of the Force and in lightsaber combat. It has been implied that Force users become more powerful after they experience death, which means Sidious might be even more powerful than he was when he fought Yoda in Revenge of the Sith. I can imagine Sidious saying, “Get off my throne, boy!” If Sidious defeats Kylo Ren, he may take Kylo Ren as his new apprentice, which would give Kylo Ren a chance to continue his grandfather’s work as Darth Sidious’s enforcer and executioner.
