SUPERPOWER: DOUBLE-EDGED POWER

In some anime or manga such as Naruto and Bleach, characters wield a double-edged power, which is a specialized ability that comes with a price. ┬áSome double-edged powers increase a person’s physical capabilities at the cost of enduring extreme pain. Other examples grant a person immense power but at the expense of the rest of their powers. A few rare cases can make the wielder virtually invincible, but kills the wielder in the end. In general, the cost of using this ability can come in any form and is often to great to pay. My main character, Patrick Donovan, wields such a power in my third volume and lets just say that the price he pays is so great that he spends the rest of the fight screaming!

CONCEPT: NEOHUMAN WEAKNESS

I am already in the planning stage for the fourth volume of my main series, I have decided to introduce a weakness that the Young Guardians, and neohumans in general, all share. Now every neohuman has their own unique weakness based on what powers or physical conditioning they possess, but in volume four, there will be a weakness that they would all be vulnerable to as a species. This way, the Young Guardians and their allies would be able to face a enemy that could potentially kill them, which will increase suspense and tension. With this in mind, the possibility exists that one or more of the main characters could die in volume four, which would provide a much darker and emotional ending. Just thinking about this weakness gives me the chills because what I have in mind is both repulsive and unexpected.

WRITING UPDATE: FOURTH SHORT STORY (CHAPTER 2)

I have reached the second chapter of my fourth short story and the plot is becoming increasingly intense. In this section of the story, the main character will acquire an unexpected mentor while the supervillain will begin their rampage with catastrophic results. I am rather pleased with how I created the supervillain because they are an individual who represents an unstoppable force, which will provide the main character a very sizable challenge when they confront one another. This chapter will be a combination of mass destruction and gaining the will to fight the forces of evil. In addition, the spiritual side of the plot will become more developed and the inner workings of the super villain’s origins as well as the forces that made them will be further elaborated.

CONCEPT: IMPRISONING A SUPERVILLAIN

One of the problems that comes from defeating a supervillain is finding a way to imprison them. A normal maximum security prison would be sufficient to imprison regular criminals and supervillains who have no powers and rely on gadgets. However, a normal prison would be useless when it comes to containing a supervillain with powers because there would be no conventional means to counter their powers and their mentality would make them too unpredictable to anticipate. Therefore, how do you imprison a supervillain with powers? As the DC Comics character Amanda Waller put it in the Suicide Squad trailer, the ideal way to contain a supervillain would be to “put them in a hole and get rid of the hole.” With this in mind, how would you give the supervillain in question no means of escape once they are incarcerated? In my fourth short story, one of the main character’s powers will provide the Young Guardians a means to contain their defeated enemies, which they will use in the years to come. I will not say what form of containment this character’s power will provide, but it will be an effective system that would make any prison proud.

CONCEPT: RESURRECTION

One of the most interesting elements of fiction involves bringing the dead back to life. Because of the complexities of life and death, resurrecting someone would not be as simple or straightforward as it sounds. Due to the fact that bringing back the dead would involve delving into forces that no one can truly understand, if the resurrection is not done properly, the consequences could be disastrous. To truly bring a person back to life would require far more elaborate methods that few people would even consider. The natural order of things would inevitably find a way to balance itself out if it is tampered with, one way or another. Due to this fact, the resurrection in question may not have the result you would want. Instead, it could result in the creation of something unnatural and abhorrent. In my fourth short story, the potential consequences of resurrecting a person without the proper methods will be explored.

WRITING UPDATE: THIRD SHORT STORY COMPLETE!!!

I have just finished the final chapter of my third short story! I must say that I have a great sense of satisfaction in completing it since I wanted to write it for some time. Now, I will begin writing the fourth short story, which will revolve around a character whose powers revolve around magic. Based on what has happened so far, I have completed three short stories in less than a year, which is a new record for my writing career. I look forward to any new developments my writing will develop.

WRITING UPDATE: THIRD SHORT STORY (CHAPTER 9)

My current project has taken an exciting turn because I am on the ninth and final chapter of my third short story. This chapter will conclude the origin story of the main and most powerful supervillain in my series, Vogan. The final chapter will reveal the completion of Vogan’s descent into madness as well as the creation of his supervillain syndicate, the Black Pantheon, and the Young Guardians’ benefactor, the White Triumvirate. The Black Pantheon got its name because in mythology, a pantheon is a group of gods and deities, which is a direct reference to Vogan’s god complex. The White Triumvirate got its name because it has three leaders who see each other as equals. In addition, the reader will get a glimpse of Vogan’s master plan, which will be fully revealed by the fifth volume of the series.

CONCEPT: SUPERVILLAIN CATEGORIES

Some believe that there is no categorization about supervillains, but upon closer examination, I noticed that they each have their own unique connection to the superhero that makes them distinct. The first category is the type of supervillain who tests the superhero’s physical limits and is kind of like a common thug. Another category is the type of supervillain who is a typical sociopath and challenges the superhero on a mental level. A third category is the kind of supervillain who has an intimate knowledge of the superhero, allowing them to exploit their weaknesses for maximum damage. The last category is the kind of superhero who is more of a nuisance than a threat, indulging in petty crime such as stealing. In general, even though a supervillain always commits crimes and evil, they come in many forms, giving the superhero a challenge i any case.

WRITING UPDATE: FUTURE SHORT STORIES

Now that I am almost done with my third short story, I am already planning more short stories that will continue to fill in the gaps of my series. The next short story will revolve another significant character who will appear in the upcoming fourth volume of my main series. After this fourth short story is complete, I will resume my main series by starting the fourth volume. Once the fourth volume is complete, I will write four more short stories. Among these short stories will be a number origin stories for a number of the main characters such as Tinisha Dolaira, Triple Ace, Cynthia Andrews, and Cyber Shadow/Brick Baxter. With Tinisha story, it will not only tell her origins, but it will also give the reader a look at what kind of mystical world she came from before she crossed over into 21st Century Earth. For Triple Ace, her story will finally reveal what secret she has been hiding behind her mask, which she never removes even in front of her teammates. Cynthia’s story will elaborate on what traumatic event caused her to develop split-personality disorder and, as a result, two separate sets of powers. With Brick Baxter/Cyber Shadow, his story will not only reveal the mindset that will lead to him becoming a cyborg supervillain, but it will also illustrate how he survived his defeat in the first volume. I look forward to working on all of these future projects and bringing my superhero universe closer to completion.
