FILM REVIEW: KRULL

Krull

One of my favorite science fantasy films would be Krull. Even though the film lacked a cohesive plot in some areas, it was still enjoyable and engaging. In some ways, this film reminded me of King Arthur. The main character, Prince Colwyn, is obviously based on King Arthur and gains a magical weapon called the Glaive, which may represent Excalibur. The Old One, the Emerald Seer, and Ergo the Magnificent are either magicians or wise men who could represent Merlin. The robbers were apparent references to the Knights of the Round Table. Overall, Krull depicts a classical mixture between the damsel in distress and fantasy quest story. A princess gets kidnapped by a Dark Lord known as the Beast and his Slayer minions then her betrothed and his band go on a quest to rescue her. I would recommend this film to anyone who is a fan of the fantasy and science fiction genres. It makes a great cult film!
