GAME OF THRONES: ALTERNATE BATTLE OF THE TRIDENT

An interesting thought has plagued me for a long time regarding the outcome of the Battle of the Trident in Game of Thrones. The Battle of the Trident decided the outcome of Robert’s Rebellion when Robert Baratheon slew Rhaegar Targaryen in single combat. The events of this one battle and its aftermath ultimately shaped the story as we know it. However, I often wondered how the story of Game of Thrones would have turned out if Rhaegar Targaryen defeated Robert Baratheon instead of the other way around. What would become of the Mad King? Would he be overthrown by Rhaegar after crushing the rebellion? What kind of king would Rhaegar be? How would his relationship with Elia Martell be affected when his affair and son with Lyanna Stark becomes public? What would become of Houses Baratheon, Stark, Arryn, and Tully after they are defeated? With no War of the Five Kings, what would the Seven Kingdoms be like in this alternate reality with Rhaegar Targaryen as king? With most of the characters we know ceasing to exist, what new characters would take their place? Most importantly of all, how would this alternate version of the Seven Kingdoms handle the White Walkers when they inevitably breach the Wall? Too many questions for this considerably different Westeros. What do you think?

  1. Yes too many questions!!! I really wonder how “Game Of Thrones” would have been if Rhaegar was king or if the mad king was still alive. I’m guessing that Daenerys would also be very different than what she is. I’m actually hoping that G.RR martin writes a book about Rob’s rebellion because I really want to know more about it. It’s a whole different and interesting story
